Zen Illustrations

Cultivating a calming digital space for medicine and connection.

MY ROLE

WHAT IS ZEN PATIENT?

Illustrator

Zen Patient is a middle-man service that connects doctors to patients for medication, consultation, and prescriptions.

Medical spaces are increasingly online, but the human need to connect with real doctors who you know and trust hasn’t changed

THE CHALLENGE

The client wanted to breach the digital space and give doctors a platform that connected them to their patients in a way that fostered human connection.

EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT

One of the problems of modern design is that everyone is looking at everyone else’s modern work and it becomes a feed-back loop of the same sanitized, uninspired material. For this type of research I like to use the online databases of art and history museums.

New illustration that samples from classical art can hit that comforting note while being fresh and exciting.

HIGHLIGHTING THE VALUE

The function of Zen Patient is connecting doctors and patients through a digital health platform. It’s benefits and unique advantages needed to be easily and quickly communicated to make it stand out, so the creative director and I developed a visual language that empahsizes the relationship between patient and doctor through a lens of humanity, connection, and the universal relatability of the natural world.

Heavy Lifting

Growth

MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE

This focus illustration represents tenants relating to growth, but can be applied to future material as the brand grows. By weaving in as many elements as possible without compromising clean application and a quick read, a one-off illustration becomes a long-lasting asset.

EMPTY STATES

Empty states are an opportunity to inject personaility and delight into otherwise unused areas. We can reinforce brand ideals and visual styles without taking away from utlitarian elements of the design.

Like Origami, medicine is a human artform, requiring both technical skill, thousands of years of foundation, and a through-line of passionate people and communcation.

Like other visual assets these allow the warmth of organic elements to remind users on both sides that we are facilicating connection between humans, not robots or algorithyms.

PROJECT TAKEAWAYS

For this project I was given the room and the incentive to look outside of modern design and illustration in order to produce something fresh and exciting.

By taking heavy inspiration and style notes from artists outside of my immediate experience the creative team and I were able to make something that easily stood apart from the crowd and has been applied across all channels including marketing, product design, and social presence.

Zen Patient is now signing up applicants to help move doctor and patient relationships forward.
